More Images...           Membership cancellation/freeze request form...             Adult Introductory Programs...         Fencing as Martial Art Program   Private Introductory Program   Please scroll down for more information           Sword Players Fencing Academy Membership and Programs   Any type of Sword Players Fencing Academy membership requires a CFF license and an OFA participant membership (All prices are plus HST)       Guests (must have a reasonable fencing experience)   $20 per visit (plus equipment rental $5 per item per visit or $20 per visit for the entire set)       Musketeers Squadron   Ongoing program designed for children ages 8 to 12 One to three+ 1.5 hour group classes per week with individual lessons are included in the program. A rank system with an exciting rank promotion reward program is in place. Month to month membership, no long term contract. Kids are welcome to come for a trial lesson ($20) before signing up. Please call 416-732-8582 now to schedule your visit. $80/100/120 monthly (one/two/three+ 1.5 hour group lessons per week plus individual lessons) Fencing equipment is also provided free of charge.       Advanced Musketeers   Too young to go to the Olympics? The Advanced Musketeers group might be a good choice for you for now. To be allowed to join the group you would need to either:    Be invited by the coach; or    Participate in youth circuit tournaments in Quebec or in the USA; or    Achieve status as a Knight or a Commander of the Order of Musketeers. Participants are expected to come at least three times per week and to demonstrate a strong desire to accelerate in fencing. An appropriate yearly training and competition plan will be suggested based on the participant’s needs and ambitions. Ages 8 to 12 Monthly fee: TBD       Gladiators (teenage athletes)   It is believed that the early teens are the most prominent ages for technical and tactical development of a future champion. That is why we run this program six days per week and participants are also encouraged to join any of our Footwork/Technical classes as well as any open fencing hours. Participation in the "Ontario Epee Podium" as well as "Quattro Spade d'Oro" tournaments is strongly recommended for all program members. It is an ongoing program so one can join the class at any time. Newcomers are entitled to a trial lesson ($20) and, after signing up, to four individual lessons at no charge to learn some basic fencing skills and to catch up with the group. Month to month unlimited membership plus individual lessons, $100 monthly Protective fencing equipment is also provided free of charge.       Wandering Musketeers   Sword Players youth (under 14/12/10) competitive program in addition to Musketeers Squadron and Gladiators programs - Quebec Youth events, US Super Youth Circuits, North American Cups and International Championships. Active participants will have a priority when scheduling private lessons. More information is available at the club       Advanced Adult Beginner Class   This program is designed for those who have taken an Introductory Course and want to continue fencing but are not yet ready to become a full Sword Players Fencing Academy Member. This class is limited to one group lesson per week and has the same structure most of the time: warm-up followed by footwork, fencing drills and electrical fencing Fencing equipment will be provided for use during the classes. $50 monthly       New!!! Casual Membership   Our New Casual Membership card is valid for a whole year and gives you the flexibility to fit fencing into your busy lifestyle. You can come any time during the club’s hours and join any class and even share the visits with your friend. Members must be over 18 years old and have fencing experience or complete our introductory program. Gift certificates are available. Fencing equipment will be provided for use at the club. $150 for a 5 visit card, $200 for a 10 visit card, $300 for a 20 visit card. All cards are valid for one year from the date of the purchase.       Recreational Membership   Unlimited fencing during club hours any day of the week Two group lessons per week Typically members will be using their own equipment. New members might consider the option to rent club equipment at a reasonable rate ($30 per month for the entire set of protective equipment and $5 per use broken blade insurance). $60 monthly ($50 monthly if paid for a year) + One Time Enrolment Fee $100.00       Junior Competitive (16-19 years old), Adult Competitive and Team Gold Competitive Membership     Open to every member pursuing high performance goals. Prerequisites and obligations include but are not limited to a minimum one year commitment with three or more training days per week as well as an OFA Competitive membership and regular participation in non-local competitions. Talk to your coach about your training plans and how the participation in the Competitive Program will help to enhance your fencing development. The fees for the program are discussed individually, depend on your age, your fencing level and needs. On the top of the Sword Players Fencing Academy full membership privileges participants of the Competitive Programs would expect: Prioritized individual lessons Individual training program and detailed season training and competition plans (online personal planning and reporting system is in place) Coaching at the local competitions (depending on the coach availability)       Individual, one-on-one lessons   Online registration only, one needs to have an active account. (six classes at 8:00 pm on Thursdays, Apr. 4th - May. 9th) Participants will learn basics of historical Renaissance Rapier as well as principals of samurai Katana swordplay   Fencing as Martial Arts program has been developed and designed to teach people fencing as a martial art. It will explore the theories common to all weapons to show people that fighting with swords is fundamentally the same across all cultures and time periods, and to achieve that elusive goal of hitting without being hit. The texts from which course material is drawn from include works written by: Aldo Nadi, Claude LeMarche, Alfred Hutton, William Gaugler, Ridolfo Capo Ferro, Niccolo Giganti, and George Silver   Part 1 – Modern sport fencing Lesson 1 - Foil 1 Foil is the foundation of fencing designed to teach people control over themselves in a high stress situations. To most observers it appears to be an artificial representation of sword-fighting; but this class teaches the basics of foil fencing and its martial application. This class focuses on how people should defend themselves with a sword, against an equally armed opponent, and introduces theories that are applicable to all martial arts and weapons. Lesson 2 - Foil 2 This class builds on material in Foil 1. The focus of this class is on offensive actions and factors that should be considered when trying to formulate a successful assault against a person defending themselves with sword. Lesson 3 - Sabre 1 This course will teach the basic of defence with a sabre and is drawn from the system outlined in Alfred Hutton's Cold Steel. Lesson 4 - Sabre 2 This class covers how to successfully launch attacks with a sabre. Lesson 5 - Epee 1 Derived from the French word for "sword", this class the basic handling of the epee to successfully defend one's self in a frank encounter with sharp blades. Lesson 6 - Epee 2 This course covers the fundamentals required to attack with an epee to achieve the goal of hitting without being hit.   Part 2 – Historical fencing Lesson 7 - Katana 1 This class explores the weapon people associate with the samurai, and how it is used in defence. This class shows how principles present in western swordplay are applicable to this weapon. Lesson 8 - Katana 2 This class looks at kata from kendo and kenjutsu, and how principles from other sword arts apply to these pre-meditated motions. Lesson 9 - Rapier 1 The rapier is a Renaissance thrust-and-cut weapon. This class explores basic defences and attacks with a rapier, with an emphasis on defence. Lesson 10 - Rapier 2 This class focuses on how to attack with a rapier, and how the defender can take basic principles from the previous classes to defend themselves. Lesson 11 - Rapier 3 This class on rapier explores the complex and nuanced interplay that occurs between attacker and defender, and relies heavily upon material presented in Rapier 1 and 2. Lesson 12 - Rapier 4 This class explores how to defend with rapier and dagger, against an attacker with a rapier.
